Our goalkeeping situation
|
What do we do for the final 5 games of the season. Every time Randolph has played he's been impressive, and he's got a Euorpean Championships to look forward to.
Adrian has been fine, he generally does the basic stuff well but never really stands out. Can't remember the last time he won us a game.
I'd give Randolph a run through to the end of the season - he's earnt it and I don't think Adrian has done enough to keep a very capable deputy out the side

Hard to disagree with that. I was at the Arsenal game at the weekend and he does not fill me with confidence, especially when he takes too long kicking the ball out, inviting on the opponent's attackers. Fuck me the bastard nearly gave me about 4 heart attacks.

How about Adrian saving that penalty at 2-0 down against Everton? He's been very good all season, people need to remember that. The flap against Palace aside there's not much he could have done about any of the goals recently.

Both are decent enough but not outstanding. I think Adrians kicking is better than Randolphs and for that reason he starts for me. At least until it looks like his form or confidence is dodgy.

Oh do fuck off.
Randolph is a good keeper but did he win us the game tonight?

"Randolph is a good keeper but did he win us the game tonight? "
Well, no, due to being hopelessly exposed by the inept play from his teammates.
However, he did keep the score respectable.
I can't see Bilic dropping Adrian, but I'd be quite happy to see Randolph between the sticks.

Randolph was my man of the match for us.

Depends what you want from a keeper I suppose. If people are happy that we should have Adrian just because he doesn't make mistakes very often that's fine, but the best keepers are the ones that make saves at crucial times, that not all keepers would make. Randolph made a great one against Fellaini first half, and also the 1 on1 against Rashford. Didn't win us the game, but ensured we went in at half time goalless. Adrian against Arsenal wasn't at fault for any of the goals, but the first two were snap shots across him I into the far corner - wouldn't necessarily expect him to save either but they were hardly worldy strikes into the postage stamps. Randolph has done enough for me in the FA Cup games to warrant a start, and Adrian hasn't done enough to keep him out.

Randolph should start at the moment. His performances warrant it.

Randolph is a good keeper and I wouldn't be bothered if he played but Adrian has not done anything to deserve being dropped.

What annoys me with Adrian is the amount of times he fucks about with the ball right in front of a forward, sometimes doing his keepy uppys! One day he's going to cost us a goal. You're a keeper, pick the ball up and distribute it. Every keeper is a keeper because they're shit outfield players.

You do understand that when the ball is passed back to him he can't pick it up and distribute it? He's flicked the ball up a couple of times and hasn't done it since he nearly got caught out.

Adrian looks a lot taller, so he should be in goal.

Good thread. Good problem to have in a way because I think both are good. I think the mistake was earlier in the season dropping Randolph after two impressive clean sheets. Though giving him this cup run is a good solution too.
I think the advantage of Adrian is that he's a front foot player who wants to come for stuff, which I think is important at the top level. The advantage of Randolph is that he's a homegrown player, so in those terms maybe more valuable an asset. Hope we can keep both happy, and I'd be happy to see them carry on competing for the place next season.

I'm happy with either, though Randolph to his credit hasn't put a foot wrong and is a big reason why we were in the quarter finals.
Been pleasantly surprised by him big time.

Hopefully, as we progress and play in Europe next season there will be enough games to keep both keepers busy.
Randolph was excellent again last night but I don't think Adrian deserves to be dropped.
Randolph should be given EL (assuming we hang on to 6th) and both cups next season... that should keep him happy enough to not be tempted away in the summer.

Difficult one, dropping Adrian could go one of two ways:
1. Adrian will work harder to get his spot back and may have become complacent?
2. Adrian will be upset by the news, and storm off faking injury.
